I set the cat among the pigeons over on LinkedIn

It really is worth getting your thoughts together on who you're helping, what you value and why you love your work before posting a generic update about your new job, new business win or great coverage.

I find it boring when people post coverage or share their wins on LinkedIn, without giving the context of what it means to them, the story behind how they achieved this, and the reasons they’re passionate about this result.

Take a look at the comments in this post and you’ll see not everyone is comfortable with the idea of sharing your true self on this "professional" platform. But do you want to do business with someone wearing a mask? Business connections are like personal ones, in that we need to know, like and trust those we want in our circle. That's where the best opportunities come from so we need to move on from the outdated idea of having an entirely separate professional identity.

Personally, I believe LinkedIn is a fantastic platform for your comms career, whether you're attracting new business, looking for a role, or promoting your company, but you only stand out if you know the following:

  • Who you want to help

  • What your expertise is

  • Why you do what you do and what you love about it

  • Where you want to go in your career

You don’t need to share all this but having this information in your mind (and your heart) is what will make your posts interesting, useful, valuable and inspiring to others. And therefore more likely to be seen and attract good things into your world.

The reason I believe that we don’t see more great posts on LinkedIn is that many comms people have fallen out of love with their work. They’re embarrassed by their clients. Disillusioned with their bosses. They don’t feel they are making a big difference at a time when the world really needs them. And they sometimes secretly regret their choice of going into this industry in the first place.

If that sounds like you, it’s ok to admit this to yourself. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. You can relook at your comms career and evolve it in a new direction, without starting from scratch. You can make a bigger impact on the world and help more people. You can attract opportunities that are more aligned to your true gifts.

But it starts with a choice. A choice to go deeper into your subconscious desires, your hidden dreams that you’re afraid to admit and acknowledge your neglected talents.

And that’s where I come in.

Through 8 private coaching sessions over a 6 month period, we get clear on what you want, put together a plan and tune into any blocks preventing you from success. My approach combines practical, goal-orientated success with subconscious shadow work and calming body awareness techniques. This combination is extremely powerful and transformative in all areas of your world - from your relationships, your health, through to your income and your lifestyle.
